Downtown Students

Last night I was thinking about those days when I sat at my college gate watching girls come and go. It was a girls college, yeah I know that does not sound great, but it was pretty awesome actually. I mostly sat there to kill time which my friends and I had in plenty.

As I sat there I could see girls in all kinds of clothes. Girls in traditional Indian salwaar kameez,  in jeans, in track pants, in skirts...But overall it was a simple affair. Simple and yet versatile and colourful.

There was plenty of supply of tees and skirts from a small but good shop near our university. I think it was called La Paradise. I wonder if it the shop is still there.

Someone recently told me that things are bit different now. Well, I would like to see how different they are, but I have no plans to travel to Benaras soon so it will take some time. Till then, I am posting a few pictures that I took at my hometown last week.

You guys have a great weekend! Do like my Facebook page and take care.

From Friends, With Love

How do you feel when you receive an unexpected or even an expected gift from a friend? I am sticking to friends here, exclusively friends. I still remember the joy I felt when my friends gave me something really priceless during my first year in college. Most of it was handmade and hence exclusive and rare.

As we grow up, we call each other on birthdays and anniversaries and we buy presents mostly when we are invited to a party.

Well, we did not do this a few years back. When I sit alone and think of the closest friends I ever had, I feel like sending them a present. And then I procrastinate thinking its not  their birthday yet. And it never happens.

What I am trying to say here is that, do we need an occasion to send something special to our friends? Not really. There are things we always come across that remind us of someone special. Let us buy that for him or her then. That book on the 3rd rack, that painting, that t-shirt that  made someone a hot property in college, it can be anything....

Not so long ago, I used to complain to God about how I have been receiving less gifts once I grew up. Till I was surrounded with really kind and great friends. What I am wearing in today's post is mostly gifted. Achala and Juree gave the blouse and Neha gave the shorts. What leaves me amazed is the love that comes with these gifts.

Not so long ago, I also used to think that shorts were good as long as they were short enough. That they should be of a certain length and design and that they should be worn with casual tops etc. Not anymore. With Done by None's collection of super cool high waisted shorts, I have come to terms with many new designs and new ways of wearing shorts.

Hope you like the outfit. Please like my Facebook page and to get regular updates, just hover on the right top of a Facebook post from jenny's Bicycle and select 'all updates'. I might not post next Friday as I would be travelling. Have a great weekend!

Pastels

A newfound love for pastels tries to talk me into buying everything that looks remotely like an ice cream. Though teaming them with the right colour has always been tricky for me, but on a second thought, what are whites, nudes, other pastel colours and greys for? To be pastels' best buddies of course!

Pastel colours have something very fresh, morning like, dreamy thing that is hard to resist. What do you think?  And please like my Facebook page or follow me on Bloglovin as I have heard that Google reader will be gone soon. Take Care and have a wonderful weekend. And yes, make the most of this sale season! Also, you can buy this shirt on freecultr.com. They have it in more colours :)

Fabulous Ina

When I saw Ina for the first time in my previous office my eyes were stuck at her beautiful naturally crippled hair.  And I don’t know how it happened she was the first one who talked to me there. It was almost like those childhood days when you feel that special bonding with the first girl or boy who talked to you in your new school.

Then we became friends and soon I knew that Ina was one of the best dressed people I had seen. She wouldn't try too hard. She is most comfortable in a pair of jeans and tees. Yet she would add something to a simple look that would make it different.

She paints. She dresses up and sometimes down, only to look her best. Her favorite brand is Promod and she hates curls for being so unmanageable. But curls or no curls, Ina is one of those who would carry off any look with an unmatched elegance.

Sometimes a picture says a thousand words. This is one of Ina’s pictures that speak volumes of her confidence, her minimalist style, her love for perfect shades and that diva like aura she has.

The Trendsetters

When it comes to style, the sources of inspirations can be infinite. Fashion shows, movies, beauty magazines, television shows, the recent award functions etc. One of the best source however is of course the people around us.

People. There are are many of them. And there are so many of them who are stylish in their own ways. They break rules. They make some new ones. They just wear what they have to wear and they look gorgeous inspiring everyone around them. They are the trendsetters.

Today's post is all about such trendsetters. People who have inspired me in so many ways. These people are the ones with an impeccable sense of style, people who know fashion.

Mrs Pasang Gogoi and Reeju Gogoi, Kolkata
Reeju carries bright colours as good as the pastel ones. And somehow she surprises me with every new outfit she adorns. Mrs. Gogoi is one of those lovely aunts one would love to flaunt. I am yet to see someone who did so much justice to the combination of yellow and pink. So amazing!

Ankita Chandra, Mumbai
For all those in Mumbai, when was the last time you visited a really hot dentist? Well, here is Ankita for you: A dentist, a fashionista, an avid shopper, someone who lives life to the hilt, a girl with amazing hair, a dynamic person who always keeps it stylish.

Juree Gogoi, Gurgaon
The sea green butterfly. Do not know why this term comes to my mind for her right now. She is someone who knows exactly what she is going to wear. She has a fuss free style that embraces both the conventional and the unconventional. A hip hop music listener, a hidden art & craft person, a lover of all the shades of blue and green, Juree is one stylish Human Resource Manager!

Hello Everyone...

So it has been almost a year I started this blog. Somehow it doesn't feel like yesterday. It feels like a lot has happened. It feels like that was some other world, last year. The best part was knowing so many new people, discovering new things, being in a different world and yes maintaining an online journal sort of thing.

People change. And so have I. There were days when I remembered everyone’s birthdays, never cared if they ever remember mine. And now I have this big trouble remembering birthdays. So it is no surprise that I missed Jenny’s bicycle’s birthday recently.

Coming back to change, I want a lot more things to change. I want to be more regular with the posts. I want the posts to be better. I want not to miss giving a shout to all those lovely ladies, and some gentlemen who inspire me, correct me and tell me that I have a blog they like reading. A particular gentleman hates it a bit too much when there is nothing new here on a Friday.

So here is a big thank you to everyone. To Neha for being the biggest influence here. To JapnaMili, Priyanka, Ashwini, TanujaNicoleta, Katerina, Gloria, AditiNicoleta, Tarraco…(I think I can go on and on) for inspiring me every now and then and for being there right from day one. And thank you Juree and Achala for taking pictures and doing you know what :)

Love For Shoes

Hello everyone. Yes so I am back. Hope you guys are doing great. I am sure I have missed some awesome posts by many of you. But I know I am going to read them all. That is how we bloggers are wired I guess.

So, today, I would like to talk again about shoes (on special request!). So they say a girl can never have enough shoes. But why? Because that is the way it is. There must be some kind of cosmic forces working when a girl walks past a shoe store. She is going for an important meeting or a date with that cute guy and she cannot afford to be late. Or she is thinking about a big project. Or she is broke! Nothing can stop a girl from stopping…at the shoe store!

When I was in school, there was this girl who used to scream and shout at her home after every few months saying her school shoes were old now. When her father took her to buy new shoes, she would be all awestruck at the new fancy shoes there. ’I want this one too,’ she would say. ‘But you said you just wanted shoes for your school,’ her father said.

And then she would cry so loud that everyone at the store would look at her with sympathetic eyes. Our town was a small one and so everyone knew everyone. The girl’s dad who held a good position in the town would be less emotionally blackmailed and more embarrassed in front of the store staff. And he would give in. The girl would get at least 3 pairs of shiny, new shoes and walked out with a victorious smile.

But that was a little girl. What about us grown ups? We are worse actually. We would feast on shoes if we could. A few years back when I bought a new pair and wore them to office, a certain collegue would say,’Eki, abaar shoes kinechho (You got new shoes again!)?’ And I would smile and look at my shoes like it was some prized possession.

In the same evening another girl would walk into the office wearing something that just arrived in market. And I would look at my shoes and they would look old to me. In no time I would be all geared up to buy a new one. A pair that was the latest spring summer or the one that matched with one of my least worn dresses or a pair that was on sale and it appeared like a sin to not buy them, or all of the above :)
